Structure Evaluation Engineers, Inc.
(SEE) was retained to evaluate the existing
condition of the exterior facade (including balconies and railings) of two residential
high-rise buildings with a total 460 units. The concrete facade of the
buildings exhibited extensive cracking and spalling that created an unsafe condition around
the buildings.
After a close-up review of the concrete facade and concrete
testing, SEE issued a
comprehensive report addressing the problems associated with each high-rise building including
concrete facade, railing, and balconies. The report also provided corrective measures
including concrete repairs, coating and waterproofing, and presented estimated costs for the
recommended repair program. Our client authorized SEE to
prepare bid documents for Phase I of the construction which included exterior facade rehabilitation
and coating. Due to budgetary constraints, our client decided to coat the buildings until funds
become available to perform the necessary
repairs.
SEE provided concrete facade evaluation and condition
assessment, prepared the repaired bid documents for the exterior facade repairs,
assisted the owner with bidding the project, and oversaw the construction.
